As China and Pakistan deepen cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), renewable energy has emerged as a flagship area where shared priorities are translating into long-term infrastructure and community impact. The recognition of Mr. Xu Hongchang, General Manager of Zonergy Pakistan, among Pakistan’s Top 10 Outstanding Chinese Youth reflects the strategic importance of leadership driving this transition.
Under Xu Hongchang’s leadership, the ABC Solar Power Plant has developed into one of the most successful renewable energy projects delivered under CPEC. Construction of the first 300 MW phase began on April 20, 2015, with commercial operation commencing in July 2016. Over the past eight years, the project has delivered approximately 3.7 billion kWh of clean electricity to Pakistan’s national grid, supporting energy security and sustainable economic growth.
The impact extends beyond power generation. During construction, the project created more than 3,000 jobs for Pakistani workers, reinforcing local capacity and accelerating skills development. These outcomes underscore the wider social and economic benefits of cross-border collaboration, positioning renewable energy as a cornerstone of future CPEC progress.
